Rose has been researching the great curse. Although she has been successful in removing it, she has yet to do so without damaging her patient. Her first “success” was Tactys, who is no longer truly living. Rose severed the connection between Tactys' upper and lower souls and her exaltation. Unfortunately, she did this by destroying Tactys' upper and lower souls. This gave Tactys the dubious honor of being the first pure exalt, which has proven remarkably similar to “zombie”. Imprisoned by Rose, Tactys is no longer human in any normal sense.
